Help! Need advice

Rudy (our red Merle rescue) is down in his back. He started limping 2 days ago and yesterday had trouble getting up steps. Today he can lift his front but has a great deal of difficulty getting his butt up. I carried him out this morning to do his business and he has not moved from the spot I set him down in. I have given him some aspirin and that seems to help the pain some. I have never had to deal with this before - any suggestions on how to make him more comfortable till we can get him to the vet tomorrow would be greatly appreciated.

based on what I've read of others experiences, I'd get him to a vet ASAP... :( Hope Rudy heals quickly....

Yeah I don't know Laura...can he support his hind end at all? If not, I think you have to ASAP it. Or if he is standing but won't right his foot if you push it under him wrong (think about pushing his back foot back and dragging the top of the toes on the ground). Those things indicate spinal cord involvement and are, from what I know, an emergency. :( Poor Rudy!

He will walk very slowly once we help him get his butt up.

Don't wait until tomorrow. Get him in to emergencey for a shot of pred.

Experience speaking.

Maybe I should have said more.

It's important to reduce any swelling that will affect the spinal cord as soon as you can. Permanent damage can occur otherwise.

The method for doxies and what the vets here did for Kane was a steroid bolus ASAP. Then oral pred, and we did acupuncture and chiro. Kane is just fine now. Others I know have had the same outcome. But the bolus of steroids was recommended as being very important in the first 48 hours.

Hang in there Rudy!!!
